  • Methadone is a drug commonly used to treat individuals with opiate addictions.  It blocks the receptors in the brain that are affected by the use of opiates.  Opiates include Oxycontin, heroin, and other prescription medications.  Individuals will experience a gradual detox process compared to painful withdrawal symptoms.
  • Methadone reduces drug cravings and painful withdrawal symptoms without creating euphoria associated with the abuse of opiates. 
  • Methadone effects last between 24 and 36 hours.  Most individuals benefit from a single daily dose.
  • Methadone has been available in the United States for over 65 years.  The effectiveness of Methadone treatment has been proven for over 40 years.
  • Methadone dispensed at Michigan Therapeutic Consultants is in liquid form, however is available in both liquid and pill form.
  • Methadone patients are covered under the Americans with Disabilities Act, which means you cannot be denied employment if you are using Methadone as a prescribed treatment.
